My Milking Journey

After upgrading to a mother, I've officially joined the "milking" club to be a "cow"! Day and night I'm either expressing milk or latching my little baby to my boobs.

When I was single, my alarm clock was my phone. When I got married, my alarm clock was Ken's phone. When I got pregnant, my alarm clock was my bladder. Guess what my alarm clock is now?? No.. It's not Rachael. It's my boobs! Every two to three hours if I did not let Rachael latch on or I did not express milk, my boobs will be in great pain. They will feel very full, hard, hot and with throbbing pain. Now I understand why my friends who are breastfeeding always say they feel that their boobs are bursting. It does feel that way!

Anyway, nursing her is the only time that I get to blog or surf the net. Nowadays, milking sessions a.k.a. expressing with the pump has reached a brand new level of can't do anything except to focus. The LC said to pump in blocks of 5min for 15min will do. Sounds good and fast. But after every 5min, I need to massage the boobs. So well, more time is spent on massaging than pumping. One milking session takes about 45min and I can't do anything else at all.

So it's actually better for baby to latch on to nurse rather than to pump the milk out. Moreover, baby's sucking is better than the pump! Rachael can help me clear the blockage and milk lumps in my boobs but not the pump.

Yesterday my right boob was hurting so much again. Pumped a few times to no avail. So I bear with my nipple pain and latched Rachael on. Guess what, something "burst" in within. Saw milk squirted out uncontrollably onto Rachael's face and my bed and I felt release in my boob that very instant. That was so amazing! So as much as Rachael depends on my for milk, I depend on her too!

What a milking journey!
